Another one of Estepona’s more unique tourist attractions and certainly one it’s less known, the excellent Corominas interpretation centre is located in the Pedregales area, at the foot of the Sierra Bermeja mountain and just a short drive away from Estepona town centre.
During archaeological explorations surrounding the construction of the nearby AP-7 toll road, the Dolmens of Corominas were discovered.
Estimated to be approx. 5000 years old, these ancient dolmens were moved nearby to their current location in order to protect, conserve and study these fascinating burial chambers. Upon their discovery, burial remains were found as well as ceramics, jewellery and weapons were also discovered.
Alongside the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolmens of Antequera, as well as many other prehistoric caves and dolmens in the area, the brilliantly restored Dolmens of Corominas are one of the best preserved examples of early burial chambers and represent an extremely important location in the ancient history of this part of Spain as well as that of early man.
